REALITY RAP IS NOT DEAD IN THE WORDS OF MATT SONZALA
This is an Austin Super Group of sorts consisting of members of the groups Da C.O.D., Dred Skott and Southbound. Honestly, three of my favorite groups out in any capacity right now. The song below is entitled "A.P.D." and I posted the lyrics,
Anyway, I love to see young artists get up and say what's really on their mind. IT'S IMPORTANT! Peep the lyrics below. Who prints lyrics anymore? I think more people should-Matt Sonzala
The League Of Extraordinary G's- "A.P.D."
REGGIE COBY (Dred Skott)
How many shots will it take? How many straws on the camels back till that bitch break,
How many more niggas you gon shoot, and how many more times till it's you,
And how many more lies do we gotta listen to, till you muthafuckin cowards grow a spine and you finally tell the truth,
Justified homicide huh? i need to see some proof, or do our lives even make a difference to you?
Maan, they don't give a fuck about you and me, our struggle to succeed, what's happening in the community,
What ever happened to serve and protect, i deserve some respect but instead you rather shoot at me,
So im gon do to them, before they do to me, what the fuck would you do if you were me?
Now you tell me what's worse the dopeboy or the burgler,
The pimp the whore or the muthafuckin MURDERER.....
SB Da 6TH STREET BULLY (Dred Skott)
This morning i woke up and twitted-in, everybody goin nuts saying the laws struck again,
This time it was a youngsta, barely old enough to get gigarettes was took from us,
Said he fit the description of the disturbance they was summoned on,
Said he was strapped, when they searched him found a wallet and a cell phone,
That's fucked up it's too late cuz he gone, another family the APD tore down,
Now it's far past due what niggas should do, that could easily be you, so i declare war on the boys in blue,
(not the cuz) But the fuzz, 5-0 done fucked up, we ridin for ever family in Austin you took from,
Rest in peace to Daniel Rocha and Sphia King, Jesse Owens and Gonzo's brother we gon make a scene,
2000 deep in all black down 11th street, headed to the capital governer Perry got beef!
MR. GREEZO (DA C.O.D.)
So this the policy, murder no apology? Ima stay strapped for a fact cuz you gotta be,
Shoot first then you got a chance like the lottery, pussy ass pigs ain't shit but a mockery,
League full of G's on top no apostrophe, rest in peace all the deseased your still a part of me,
And my niggas locked up for the century, revolution first when it's time come and mention me,
I was raised on Dead Prez and Bun-b, felon by design so you know where my gun be,
Comin at your boy sideways like a gumbi, APD that's the all puss division,
Cowards wit a badge waiting for a true colision, with some niggas that'll shoot at you for livin,
And i'm wrong for pimpin? A loaded 38 in size 38's that's true religion....
LOWKEY (SOUTHBOUND)
I say fuck 'em up against the wall, cuz they ain't never protected or served me once at all,
I know you feel me your rollin just minding business, they get right behind you trippin
and wishing that you gon fuck up and give them reasons to bust, give em reason to taze,
Ask em if crime pays, they know just like i know, the money go missin my prime suspect is 5-0
I seen it with my own eyes, i know i wasn't speeding cuz i ride slow,
If you from Austin then you should be mad, Williamson too, when will it be too much they just itching to shoot,
And when they do they get a vacation chillin imune, but catch me with a quarter-pound i'd be in prison by noon,
Them bithces shoot you in the back dawg that's a cowardly move, they got some friends on the hourly news,
I think it's time for retribution like we standin at church, tell us why the videotapes go missing like they're amber alerts,
RIP to all the fallen got your family first in my thoughts
We gon take it to em so they always remember your loss,
Fuck Art Acevedo, Will Wynn, and anybody else that's standing up for all these pussy cops, fuck 'em all.....

Whats good 54 Reality Show viewers, this weeks episode is serious.
There was a shooting outside of a popular club in Austin, related to a rap event that took place that night. While we are thankful no one was killed, I wanted to get out on the scene and speak with a few local artist to find out how they feel this will affect the enviroment for hip-hop in Austin. I really want to know what others think, leave me a message, comments, and thoughts below or email them to crew54@gmail.com.
Then the homie Bavu came through and showed us his interview with up and coming R&B talent Anthony David. He's the first signee on India Arie's new imprint, and Bavu caught up with him while he was in town. If your in the Austin area on Wednesday's from 3 t0 5 p.m. make sure you check out Bavu's Revue on KaziFm 88.7.
Finally we finish it up with footage from performances at Flamingo Cantina and Dirty Dog. The homie Cali Zack was putting it down at Flamingo with N/A Productions, Dred Skott, and C.O.D. Over at Dirty Dog it was the D-Madness going away party, and we all came through to show our support for one of Austin's most talented musicians.
Check it out, and please leave your comments below, we need ya...

54 Reality Show 4-13
Too Short was in da house so I figured I could get away with starting this post off like that. It was a busy weekend, in fact it was basically a busy Saturday night. First G took a minute to hate on my new trendy look, but its cool cuz like I said on the Crew Deep intro "MY SWAG IS SO VERIFIED!"
Then we headed downtown to check out the Too Short show and lets just say he was as raw as ever. Shouts toProper Ent and all the openers. Then we did Crew Deep PT. 3 with Table Manners Crew at Plush. The homies DJ Kid Slyce, DJ Digg, and DJ Crown killed it all night. Plus we got a chance to break out our new banger "WHO DAT IS," and the crowd loved it.
Plus the Ms. V.Marie gave us a bit of late night freestyle & shit talking. Check it all out on THE 54 REALITY SHOW!!!

DOPE INTERVIEW WITH MATT ABOUT SXSW HIP-HOP
Welcome to the second annual edition of South By So Real where I rap with SXSW booker and hustler extraordinaire Matt Sonzala about all things hip-hop at SXSW. He has a lot to say so we’ll cut straight to the interview but suffice to say if an MC is performing at the festival, Sonzala made it happen. For artists that took the time to upload a track to the SXSW site, I've linked them to mp3s so you can click their name and listen while you read. Also, rappers beware: if you see Sonzala in the house and you're rhyming over your CD with vocals, he will throw a bottle at you. After all, "This ain’t fucking Star Search, this is real life!"
The Corner: This is your first full year on the job. Did that make it any easier this year than last?
Matt Sonzala: Definitely not any easier because my responsibilities quadrupled. I deal with a lot of the bands coming from Europe, not just urban music now. It’s easier logistically in terms of convincing rappers to come down. Last year when we talked I said it was getting better as far as the industry recognizing and wanting to come down but this year everyone wants to come down. It’s really nice. I’m really happy with what we have this year. We couldn’t even take everything we wanted to. A lot of rappers actually applied on time this year!
TC: What about the festival has changed that makes hip-hop artists want to be a part of it?
MS: I really don’t think it’s changed that much. SXSW has done hip-hop forever even early on when I came back in 1990 and saw artists like Decadent Dub Team and MC Overlord. I saw Sociopath Left and groups like that way back then. There’s always been hip-hop. My role in Texas hip-hop has always been sort of a P.R. guy to an extent. We’re not a media center like New York or L.A. and we’ve suffered from that for a long time. SXSW is our outlet. You can get a lot done in those four days. Now people know that it’s the place to be.
TC: Given that, do you feel an obligation to book a certain number of local acts?
MS: Across the board, we all do. We know that this is Austin, man. We have to bring in some local acts but we can’t book every single local act. Rap-wise, if I see them working and they’re doing some things, yeah, I do feel kind of obligated to bring them in. That being said, a lot of the clubs don’t want rap and they don’t want local rap. I had an issue with a couple of acts that I had to take off shows because the clubs said, “No, we’ve had issues with them.” It’s hard because we can’t take every single rapper, there’s no way. Even some of the ones that are doing stuff and that I like didn’t apply on time, still haven’t applied, and it just didn’t work. I feel really bad that they aren’t on but I couldn’t add any more. But I think we have a good selection of local hip-hop. Could we do more? Yes and no. The clubs don’t want it. It’s not an easy sell. A lot of these guys are hustling and doing good work and I recognize that and I’m down for the dudes who really work. Still, a lot of them aren’t putting out albums. They’re not doing anything that proactive that I couldn’t leave them off. I can’t name one rapper in Austin who there is no way I could not book them. On a talent level there are plenty. I think Bavu Blakes is amazing. I think Set 4 Life, what Dok Holliday and Will Hustle and them do in the streets, is fantastic. Southbound is an incredible group. Dred Scott is an incredible group. I like to see guys like Dubb Sicks who go on the road and do little tours. But most of the groups get on because I want them to be a part of the conference. I want them to come learn something. I don’t want them to feel excluded. Back in the day people felt that if they were left off that they were being excluded but not one of those people filled out the application. The people who got in this year got their applications in on time. That being said you don’t have to necessarily do your 20-minute performance to get a benefit out of SXSW. The industry is here and whether you are wearing that badge or not you better be out there working. Don’t call me mad; get out there!
TC: What are a few Texas acts you think everyone should know about?
MS: I actually do wish that I had more Texas acts this year. I’m not doing a big Houston show this year because we’ve done it many times. Any one of those artists would have been welcome but they didn’t apply. Right now out of Texas I really love Question? from San Antonio. I like Fat Pimp out of Dallas, actually. I’m not big on club rap but he has more than just club raps he has some really smart stuff too. From Houston, Rob Quest from the Coughee Brothaz is coming this year. He has always performed with Devin (the Dude) but he’s got a solo album coming out. He’s a talent and he’s one of the production talents behind Houston. I’m excited about the Memphis guys, legends like 8Ball & MJG are coming down. It’s diverse this year. There’s everything from the biggest backpackers ever to club stuff to gangsta stuff and it’s all mixed together this year.
TC: I was really feeling H.I.S.D. What do you know about those guys?
MS: H.I.S.D. is a collective of guys from Houston’s indie scene. EQuality is one of the most incredible poets and Savvi is one of the most business savvy guys in that scene. Those guys are really incredible and they pooled their resources as opposed to trying to all be solo artists. They all came together and it’s obvious they’re making an impact. That whole scene has been going on for a long time but now they have strength in numbers and I think they’ll see big benefits from that this year. They’re releasing a record on the Wax Poetics label.
TC: There is a massive contingent of Canadian rappers coming this year. How did that come about?
MS: I’m a music geek so I know about all this stuff. I’m a little nervous cause I don’t know who else cares but Canada is right across the border and there are a lot of great MCs there. You hear about plenty of Canadian rock that has broken through on our radio but people don’t realize that there is some great hip-hop in Canada. People like Josh Martinez, he tours so people know him. But there are guys like Classified who is a legend. This guy Shad, he’s an up and comer and he’s brilliant. Keys N Crates kill it and Moka Only had a great run with Swollen Members. A bunch of these guys applied and I could have put them all on random shows but I put it all together and hopefully they’ll benefit. To be honest, I was nervous that they would come back and say they didn’t want to be on a Canadian hip-hop show. Everyone says “Put us on with Bun B” or “Put us on the big stage.” But every one of them was with it.
TC: Do you think of all those people Shad has the biggest chance to break out?
MS: Shad has the biggest buzz right now and he’s working really hard. He falls in line with what’s happening right now when you see the buzz around people like Charles Hamilton, Blu, Finale, B.o.B., even Asher Roth. Those guys are all pretty true school hip-hop and it’s been a while since any true-school hip-hop has broken through.
TC: Speaking of Asher Roth, could you beat him at beer pong?
MS: I could beat him in any drinking game. That’s something that’s plagued my family for a long time. Asher is definitely one of the next MCs to come up. He represents something real with the whole college scene and coming from the Philly suburbs. He’s from Middle America and he doesn’t run from that.
TC: He definitely has a late 90s Eminem thing going on though, right?
MS: They are always complaining about the Eminem comparisons and I don’t think he’s like Eminem in theory. They have totally different backgrounds and topics but you can’t deny that he’s got the inflection and the voice. It is what it is. I interviewed Eminem when he first started and he got the same ass white-boy questions. He went through all that shit too. But I think Asher is going to have a good run, he doesn’t have much to worry about.
TC: Speaking of white people, what’s up with the whole Providence contingent. Are they part of Sage Francis’ poetry club?
MS: Well, yeah. Sage Francis has his Strange Famous record label now and he’s bringing a lot of people from his label down and that also includes 2Mex and Sleep from the Chicharones, who I love a lot. Cecil Otter from Doomtree will also be on that showcase and DJ Jester will be DJing. That’s Saturday night at the Scoot Inn, it’s gonna be badass.
TC: The three acts from the Netherlands are all really cool. I had never heard of Pete Philly & Perquisite but they are legit.
MS: Pete Philly & Perquisite are legends and they rap in English, which is amazing. Dutch rappers are on par with anybody here. They are great rappers, great musically and they’ve got a very soulful feel to them. If they could tour in the States I think that they would do really well. I tried to get them here the last three years and I’m glad it finally worked out. They are Dutch legends. Arts the Beatdoctor and In Stereo (perCeptie & Kapabel) – the dope thing about them is that this local label, Beats Broke from here in Austin, puts out their albums. There is some record label in Austin putting out Dutch rap in Dutch on CD and vinyl. I think that’s amazing.
TC: What do you do with groups like that? You know they have tons of talent but in reality nobody here has ever heard of them.
MS: You try to position them with someone else that will bring in a crowd. Since Pete Philly & Perquisite are more soulful and they have a band I didn’t want to just put them on some rap show so I put them on with Solange, who is Beyonce’s little sister. Solange right now is getting her hipster on, hitting a lot of different sides of R&B and breaking boundaries with what she’s doing. I thought it would be dope to have her on with Black Joe Lewis & the Honey Bears. Zaki Ibrahim from Toronto is also on that show and the Shitsez, two Norwegian girls singing bouncy soulful rock. That’s a pretty diverse show with a lot of talent, Saturday at Buffalo Billiards.
TC: Let’s touch on Rye Rye. I see her as this year’s Santogold in terms of getting lots of buzz and popping up at parties everywhere.
MS: Yeah, and Baltimore in general. That sound has been around for a long time and it’s finally getting some notoriety outside of its borders just like Houston did a few years ago. That Baltimore sound is real. That girl is 17 or 18 years old and she grew up with it and now she’s the next wave. I think she’s gonna have a big year.
TC: I know the Saturday showcase at Austin Music Hall is one that you’re excited for.
MS: What’s really dope about that show is it represents east, west, south and Midwest. From legends to newcomers, some of the best artists I can name are on that show. Dead Prez, Bun B, B.o.B., Kidz in the Hall, Rick Ross, Mistah FAB and Balance from out west, Al Kapone from Memphis, Dam D and Free Sol from Memphis is actually going to open that show. Ghetto Metal is a movement in New York that Dead Prez is a part of with this guy Bazaar Royale. Bazaar Royale and his band are going to do some songs and then Dead Prez is going to come out with that band. Originally the concept was that all those groups were going to have bands but it wasn’t coming together so I just decided to do a big blowout. You can see Al Kapone and 8Ball and MJG both with bands on Thursday night at the Dirty Dog.
TC: You’ve talked before about the movement of pairing MCs with live bands and it sounds like they’ll be some of that.
TC: There’s going to be a lot. Even some local groups are coming with bands. I know KJ Hines has a band. I think it’s important. I’m a true school hip-hop dude too and I love great DJs but I can’t watch a rapper rap over his CD and nothing else anymore. I don’t see the point, especially if the CD has vocals on it. I will not stay in the club if you rap over your vocals. I’ll fucking go home. I will leave, I think everyone in the crowd should leave, they should throw bottles at you, I think you should be hurt. I think it’s fucking ridiculous that you would fucking rip off your audience that bad and rap over your own vocals on a fucking CD. Who the fuck are you fucking rappers with that bullshit? You can’t even get a goddamn DJ? You can’t even get a goddamn instrumental of your song? Fuck you. Seriously, I’m sick of that shit. I’m old. I can be like that now. It’s a rip-off and it’s the most worthless thing in the world. Rappers who rap over their vocals fucking suck. Fuck ‘em. That being said they don’t necessarily have to have a band. The essence is the DJ with the turntables. Make it happen. There are a lot of people moving toward that though. It’s a better show. Records aren’t selling and you want people to come to your show so you better fucking entertain them. You can see a band that you’ve never heard of before and be blown away but if you go see a rapper that you’ve never heard before ever, if he doesn’t have more charisma than you can imagine, you’re not gonna watch him for very long. You’re not gonna watch someone dude with a shitty mic and pay attention to every word he says. Once a song is on a CD how do you change it? What’s live about that? This ain’t fucking Star Search, this is real life! Right now if you want to make money as a musician you have to tour, and if you’re gonna tour people have to want to come see you. A lot of these rappers are seeing that and making their shows more compelling.
TC: Do you care that Rick Ross lied about being a corrections officer?
MS: I guess I care that he lied about it but people do what they have to do. I commend him for going out and getting a job. That being said, a big part of his career is talking about selling cocaine. Whether or not he did that, I don’t care. The fact of the matter is during those formative years, you had a job bro. You need to inspire these kids to go get a job and not aspire to be what you portray on record. A lot of the kids think that’s what they’re supposed to be, some big coke dealer. It’s stupid. So I commend him for having a job. I don’t care. Fuck it.
TC: Anybody we haven’t touched on yet that you’re excited about?
MS: This R&B girl Wayna is really cool, shes gonna have a nice show. I’m a big fan of Money Waters from Dallas. Wednesday at Fuze he's playing with Fat Pimp, Tum Tum and Blofly from Dallas. Combine that with Magno from Houston and Gerald G from Austin and that’s gonna be a badass show. If you want to see up-and-coming real talent from Texas, that’s a good mix of folks. P.O.S. from Doomtree is gonna kill it this year. Rock-wise I'm excited to see the band Complete from Ft. Worth. They're an internet sensation. Locally, I like this girl Eyeris a lot. I'd like to see more female rappers, like we got KB the Boo Bonic. After SXSW I'm gonna book a lot more shows and I'm gonna focus on bringing more females to the front. I go to all these shows and there are no females. They exist, but where are they?
AwkQwarius are two of the dudes from PPT from Dallas and they’re amazing. Locally, Da C.O.D. and Ryno and Lowkey from SouthBound are on the level of anybody, they’re good. Last year I know you were excited for Camp Lo but they are coming this year for sure. I love Amanda Blank,I think she’s a really great performer. I really like Yarah Bravo and am excited to see her live. I think Crew 54 from Killeen are a big part of the local scene right now as far as documenting the scene and being talented. DJ Tommy Tee from Norway, that dude is a legend. I used to trade tapes with him and get his graffiti and hip-hop magazine that he used to put out over there in the early 90s. He’s been in it to win it from day one. He is the dude in Scandinavia and I'm excited he's coming down. You know who I'm really excited to see actually and who is a lot of fun is the Biscuit Brothers. They're a children's act and they've got a PBS show on every Saturday morning in like 40 markets across the country. But the way they speak directly to the kids and teach them about different instruments is great. I really like what they do and their passion for music surpasses half the people on this bill. B.o.B is gonna kick ass this year. Invincible has become one of my favorite MCs right now. Her album ShapeShifters is just amazing. It’s politically brilliant and lyrical. It's a white girl from Detroit and I hate to say it but I never expected one of my favorite rap records to be made by a white girl but she’s killer and a great performer too. Poetic Piglrimage from London, very smart. We also have a holy hip-hop thing with all the Christian rappers doing a show at the Carver on Saturday afternoon. Lecrae is an incredible MC and those guys have a whole movement that people don't know anything about. The holy hip-hop awards happen every year in Houston and thousands of people come out. I’m also excited about Thursday night with Big Boi from Outkast with K’Naan and Dallas Austin. I’m curious to see what Dallas Austin is gonna do. He’s produced for everyone from Madonna and Michael Jackson down to the early Dungeon Family so I want to see what he’s gonna do.

Texas Platters BY AUSTIN CHRONICLES CHASE HOFFBERGER
The future is now for Austin hip-hop, and it's obvious on Zeale's new mixtape, Haterz and Robotz, the local MC's most complete collection to date. Boosted by the masterful precision of DJ Rapid Ric, the slick-talking Zeale raps his way through an even mix of originals and sampled cuts, all heavy on the "Retrozpect." Team Zeale/Phranchyze staples – custom shoes and clever shoot-downs – remain intact ("Brand New," "Undefined Tranzmizzion"), but Haterz soars on heartfelt tributes ("Rain") and a captivating Pink Floyd mix-up splitting the "Dull Dayz." South Austin's COD shows no fear breaking out of the "Citylimits," pulling tracks inspired by 9th Wonder's camp ("Let's Go") and the dirty dirty ("Wheel Spin") on this month's Ova the Stove, Volume 3 street release. Beats are only half the story on this diverse collection, which finds COD's four rhyme slingers one-upping one another on the epic "No Mo." Lamenting it's "time for George Bush to step aside," Choszen's Welcome to the Greene Party (Sixth Street Music) sets itself apart as politically conscious rap that can still get crunk on "Sixth Street." Lyrics about bipartisan corruption lose weight beside "I'm lovin' the way that you move" hooks, making Greene Party a better fit for Esther's Follies than Emo's. Pflugerville's K.J. Hines keeps it all business on the re-release of 2006's Capital City, out this round on Dap Records. The 18-year-old cuts it slow on "Dirty Place" but not before taking control of lead track "I Own This." Do as he says: "Move With It

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT! Hip-Hop at SXSW 2009
OK First let me say ALL THIS INFO COULD CHANGE! Times, names, clubs, dates, whatever, everything you see below here is subject to change and a lot of it probably will.
Also, THIS is not everything. I have a few shows we are still nailing down details for and those will be announced asap. I need a couple more venues in order to do what I want to do with these shows and that is the hold up. If we have discussed a show and you don't see it here, do not even trip. It is in the works.
You of course can get more and better information all the time on www.sxsw.com
If you DO NOT see your name on this list that DOES NOT mean that you are not performing. If I told you that you were, you probably are, I just need to lock you in somewhere.
If you HAVE NOT submitted an application to perform, please DO NOT ask me to perform. We are booked. We have no room for any new entries SO PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME.
I feel bad when I can't get all of my people on, but this is an international festival, one of the biggest in the world, and it's my job, so no, I can't get all my people on.

So yeah, go to www.sxsw.com and register now!
ALL OF THIS INFORMATION IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE! DON'T START TRIPPIN'!
Also it is not all hip-hop I included some of the other stuff I have been working on that you may be interested in. Much more big shit to be announced and yeah, things will change.

AUSTINHIPHOPSCENE.COM INTERVIEWS DA C.O.D
AHHS recently got a chance to sit down with Da C.O.D. in between their busy schedule. Thanks for taking the time! Read on to find out why Da C.O.D. says you gotta mind your own business!
AHHS: Can you give your fans a quick bio of yourself?
Da C.O.D.: Da C.O.D. consist of 4 uniquely and equally gifted MC's from the Southside of ATX. I, Mr Greezo been holding down Slaughter and Brodie lane way before it was cool for rappers to put it in their rhymes. S.Dot and Lil J both met and went to elementary school in the 0-4. Tuk-da-Gat is from Bastrop originally before he started called Austin home. We all came together out of necessity for good music, weed, of course $ and love for the Southside!!!
AHHS: Which is your latest CD? and how do you think it differs from your previous works?
Da C.O.D.: Feb 24th 2009 Ova Da Stove volume 3. Mixed by the infamous DJ Rapid Ric. This new street album just shows the natural progression of greatness. If you been following the series this is a definite must have. We cover all bases on this one and of course as with any C.O.D. release its gonna be a few rappers feelings getting hurt as well. We got records on there for the ladies, the boys in the trap or my niggas going to school. If you working three jobs to get thru the this bitch ass recession we got something on there for you as well.
AHHS: What gives you inspiration and how does that transpire into your music?
Da C.O.D.: We all have been thru alot of different life experiences that our fans hear in our music. These day to day trials is what definitely influences our art. For example Lil J's has been raising his son since he was 16. You can imagine the kind of stress that can cause a young nigga. We keep it real and its genuine entertainment for our fans.
AHHS: Which artists inspire you the most? and why?
Da C.O.D.: Of course all the legends that goes with out saying.. Scarface Devin UGK 8ball MJG Outkast The whole SUC and we also bang alot of East and West coast music. We on The Lox heavy Nas Jay Z C-Bo -X-Raided. People hear our shit and they don't think we're from Texas because our sound doesn't resemble the prototypical "Texas Sound" which hurt us at first but now I think its helping.
AHHS: What has kept you from moving to cities with larger markets? especially since it's only been recently that Houston has blown up.
Da C.O.D.: Well the plan was simple. Vol.1 was for the hoods to let them know we coming. Vol 2. was more for the city to let them know some cats from the south was coming. Now with Vol.3 we are looking at the state. Now you'll see us booking alot of shows in small towns like Odessa all the way to the cities like Dallas and Houston. Next we drop the album and we coming for world domination!!!!!
AHHS: How do you see the scene locally? and where do you see it going?
Da C.O.D.: The local scene is very healthy. I remember when there was only Bavu Blakes, MC Overlord and Smackola. They were really the only ones dropping good quality product. Then around 2005 James Dean and The Backroom was poppin and thats when you really started to see the scene come into its own. Now you got these young niggas coming up and they are hungry and beasting. I feel within the next 2 years something very big is going to happen for central Texas.
AHHS: What is your favorite venue to perform at? and why?
Da C.O.D.: Well we are kind of partial to Karma Lounge because that where we first really started to get it in at. The Music Hall is def the best venue the I've performed at because the sound system was on point and that bitch was packed!!!
AHHS: Can you give us 3 of your most favorite local artists?
Da C.O.D.: You know this ain't really hard.. S. Dot Lil J and Tuk-Da-Gat.... Naw serious I know Ima leave someone out but I gotta go with Gutta from Above All, Gerald G the Monsta, and Southbound Lyrical Beasts
AHHS: What is the best piece of advice that someone in the industry has given you?
Da C.O.D.: Mind your own business cuz if you don't someone else will!!!!!!
AHHS: And a more light-hearted question: Have you seen a correlation between your level of success and quality of hoes?
Da C.O.D.: LOL!!! You know I don't know about the quality but def the quantity!!!!
AHHS: Any parting words?
Da C.O.D.: FEB 24 2009 OVA DA STOVE Vol.3 in stores and on iTunes..

CREW54 CAPTURES SOME FOOTAGE FROM THE Z-RO SHOW FEB.7TH @SPIROS
Continuing our grind as the most versatile AND entertaining video blog out there, we keep it moving this week checking out the King of the Ghetto, Z-Ro, at Spiros. Props to the homie Tanner and James Dean for the good look.
There were a lot of folks in the house, and couple of openers got to do their thang. Da C.O.D. continued their rapid rise, while holding it down for Austin and stealing the show. Hot 93.3's Mimi Mendez held down the hosting duties, while DJ Wes Sanders kept the music going all night. Houston OG K-Rino dropped some real knowledge (check below for more exclusive footage), and through the drama Z-ro gave his fans what they wanted.

GAME TALK PT.3 Da Blacc Goliath, No Holds Barred
Towering over lesser emcees, Da Blacc Goliath exudes imposing force with every facet of his rap arsenal. From his 2004 collaborations with Dway, to colossal performances with Dirty Wormz, on to a recent alliance called The Guud with artists including Young Nick, Trashman, and Mirage…Da Blacc Goliath certainly holds his own.
HC: So which rappers actually made you want to rap?
BG: I always had a fondness for hip-hop, but the one person who made me actually start writing and taking it serious was this local rapper out of New Orleans named G-Slimm. He was with Big Boy Records which started out with Mystikal and him. G-Slimm was my homeboy and stuff, and to me he was the coldest rapper on the planet. G-Slimm just brought something totally different when he came in. Because after Mystikal, niggas had to come with lyrics to be a stand-out artist. So when G-Slimm told me that I was tight, that’s when I started taking it serious.
HC: Hearing your music, it makes sense to me that you’re from New Orleans but I’m hearing something very West Coast about your delivery.
BG: A lot of people tell me that I’m a combination of all coasts. It’s just a rhythm thing for me. The track is what brings it out of me. If the tempo is slow, then yeah I’mma go fast with it. But I like to go in and out, hit you with the fast shit, hit you with the slow shit. That’s just my style. So I really don’t have no style. Actually, I always thought I had a percussion-like flow. I just write them and that’s how they come out. I just love what I do so much, I just have fun with my shit.
HC: So it’s kinda open-up-the-floodgates effortless for you?
BG: Just be original. Anything that comes to your mind, if it makes sense and if it’s saying something, do it. Whatever comes to your mind, if you got style and rhythm with it, spit it out. I boast a lot in my lyrics because the world don’t really know me so I have to constantly let you know who I am in my music. I’m a monster in all aspects. I can hit you at all angles, not just one style. I can make you cry, I can make you laugh. I like to keep the total package.
HC: So how much of the New Orleans influence sticks with you in doing your music?
BG: I’d say about 80% of my influence comes from New Orleans. I do feel good stuff as we like to have fun down there. But at the same time, I got a whole lot of pain in my music too. A whole lot of pain mixed with the zydeco-like style, the rhythm. I’ve been in Austin eleven years. But I got a whole lot of people from New Orleans out here. The majority of my people I got them out here. My mama was a Katrina victim, so I got her out here. And she’s doing pretty good now, and two of my sisters.
HC: I’ve heard many people from New Orleans say, after they get through all of the negatives related to Katrina, that there was a hidden blessing that prompted many to relocate and actually improve their quality of life in other places.
BG: I looked at it like God went through there with a big vacuum cleaner and just cleaned it up. Hell, because as far as the cops and the people period for that city, it just needed to happen. I mean, it’s kinda harsh to say, but something like that needed to happen to New Orleans. Actually, it really didn’t even affect nothing because the murder rate got ten times worse. It’s dog eat dog down there, like the whole city. I done lost so many people since I’ve been here eleven years, I hate to even think about it. I don’t even have no more tears.
HC: Would you say that the Katrina situation taught you a specific lesson?
BG: It taught me the value of life, to take life more serious, because you never know. Some of the stories I done heard is like damn, I thank God for every breath, everything, every day. I let that just push me to be the best at everything that I do. I lift weights and I lift ‘til I can’t lift no more. At school, at work I kill them with overtime. I put 100% into everything that I do. I have nothing holding me back. I feel it’s my world.
